Rapid response times, well-coordinated emergency teams and ready-for-use rescue equipment at all times are critical success factors for any emergency operations plan.
Vorarlberg's regional warning center offers the appropriate infrastructure and supports all assistance and rescue organizations in integrating telematics components into their rescue tools. All relevant equipment - including rescue vehicles, boats, turntable ladders and water pumps - are equipped with intelligent GPS tracking systems and sensors. This allows Vorarlberg's rescue and fire-brigade control center to gain an overview of all available rescues tools, including those currently in use. In addition, information about location, readiness or, for instance, pump output is made available in real time, providing optimal support for critical decision-making in emergency situations.
An important success factor for emergency operations is represented by close collaboration between the different organizations and municipalities across the region. Therefore, it was necessary to establish a central system able to provide an overview of all operational units, while guaranteeing compatibility with the different vehicles and multi-vendor equipment.
"We have chosen Telekom Austria Group M2M technology, because this solution can be tailored to our specific needs. The company offers a broad portfolio of telematics solutions that are vendor-independent and therefore fully compatible with our vehicles and equipment. The user-friendly software can be centrally operated and managed for all municipalities across the region. One of the key factors in the decision was the high level of flexibility and professional consulting of Telekom Austria Group M2M team," said Philipp Bachmann, Technical Director of the Regional Warning Center.
Almost one hundred municipalities and independent fire-brigade organizations, mountain rescue and water rescue teams can now use this system to further improve cooperation between the different organizations. Some of the municipalities have already implemented this solution from the very beginning. A further major advantage offered by this system is automatic and gapless recording and documentation of all operational and performance-related data. As a result, all relevant information, including for instance electronic logbooks with driver identification, maintenance details and electronic evidence of rendered services, can be flexibly evaluated and reported.
"We are delighted that our solution has met with such a favorable response from the public sector. Especially the positive feedback from the municipalities, city administrations and more recently from the regional organizations demonstrates that our telematics solutions offer optimal support not only in the area of road construction, winter maintenance services and maintenance of urban green areas but also for public safety organizations," said Phat Huynh, Managing Director at Telekom Austria Group M2M.
